Crime

Maryam prosecutes and defends in the Magistrates and Youth Courts in matters of violence, theft, sexual offences, public order, licensing and road traffic offences. Maryam is developing a trial practice in the Crown Court and has experience of mentions, appeals, probation breaches and committals for sentence.

Civil Law

Maryam regularly appears as a trial advocate in the County Court on behalf of Claimants and Defendants in a range of matters including road traffic accidents and contract disputes. She provides advice on liability for negligence and quantum for personal injury damages. She also has experience of case management conferences, applications for interim injunctions and stage 3 hearings.

Family Law

Maryam represents Applicants and Respondents in applications for injunctions under the Family Law Act 1996. She also represents clients at the First Appointment in ancillary relief proceedings.

Regulation

Maryam hopes to develop her regulatory practice.

Prior to commencing pupillage at New Park Court Chambers, Maryam was a legal intern at the Legal Resources Centre in Cape Town, South Africa. She was tasked with researching the reforms which had been proposed to South African environmental regulations and the impact they may have on communities living in areas of proposed development.

During pupillage she also observed Chloe Hudson representing the General Medical Council at the fitness to practice hearing of a plastic surgeon.
